SILCHAR, Oct 12: In yet another highway robbery case, a truck driver Bahar Uddin (40) was brutally murdered by a gang of robbers yesterday. The incident took place last night near Lakhirbund in Hailakandi when Bahar Uddin was returning to Hailakandi along with Sihab (19) in a truck No. As-01-BC-4248 belonging to Modern Construction when seven miscreants driving a Belore Car attacked them near Lakhirbund.
The miscreants later climbed the truck and overpowered the driver and started driving the truck towards Meghalaya. On this, Bahar Uddin protested and started shouting for help but, the miscreants killed him and threw his body near Sarashpur, police sources said. Meanwhile, the miscreants had also tied the hands of Sihab who escaped their clutches when the truck was stranded in a traffic jam and immediately rushed to Umkiang outpost.
Sihab reached Hailakandi this morning and reported the matter to the police. Later, DSPO Dilip Saha led a police team to Sarashpur and recovered the body of Bahar Uddin. Meghalaya police was accordingly informed to track down the truck. THE SENTINEL
