NC Hills bandh peaceful

SILCHAR, Oct 12: The 10-hour NC Hills bandh called by the BJP today was peaceful. There were no reports of any untoward incidents from the district which was limping back to normalcy after the Dimasa militant outfit Black Widow laid down arms and returned to the mainstream.

The BJP had called the bandh demanding immediate installation of the Autonomous Council which was placed under suspension after its Chief Executive Member Mohet Hojai was arrested for allegedly funding the militant outfit. The BJP, which is an ally in the ASDC led council, further demanded compensation for the victims of Zeme-Dimasa ethnic clashes, speedy completion of the Silchar-Lumding Broad Gauge and acceleration of peace process with the Black Widow.

Haflong town today wore a deserted look as all the government offices, shops and markets were closed during the bandh. THE SENTINEL
