SHILLONG, July 10 – The CBI Court of Special Judge would hear the case related to the murder of Rinehskhem Kharsahnoh at former DGP WR Marbaniang’s residence.
Sources informed that the case would be transferred from Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Court to CBI Court after additional documents related to the case are submitted to the ADM by the Central investigating agency.
“The case would be transferred to the CBI Court, but not before the Central investigating agency furnishes additional documents relating to the case within three weeks”, an official source said.
The CBI sought from ADM RR Marak three weeks time to furnish additional documents which the ADM agreed after the chargesheet was submitted on Monday.
In July 2007, the High Court ordered that the case relating to the murder of Rinehskhem at the former DGP’s residence be probed by the CBI.
Rinehskhem was found with her throat slit on March 7, 2007. The case was dismissed as suicide by the police. But on subsequent investigation it was found the maid was murdered. Arwin Sangma, orderly of the former DGP was arrested on charges of the murder but was later released on bail.
Marbaniang allegedly tried to conceal evidence and gave false statements. The CBI therefore in its chargesheet charged him under section 201 and 203 IPC. Both sections are bailable offences. Sangma on the other hand has been booked under section 302 IPC for murder by the CBI.
Director General of Police Anil Pradhan told reporters that the police have no role to play in the case as of now. Only when the Court passes a verdict on the case would the police come into the picture, he said. SOURCE: ASSAM TRIBUNE
