JORHAT, Oct 14: The 12-hour bandh called by the Asom Shikshak Karmachari Oikya Mancha elicited almost no response in Jorhat town, but a few schools, colleges and offices were closed in rural areas. The Mancha had called the Asom bandh in protest against provincialization of non-provincialized educational institutes of the State. In Jorhat district itself there are as many as 642 non-provincialized schools comprising LP, ME, MV, composite and high schools. In the last 10 years, not a single one of these schools have been provincialized. According to official reports, there are 236 venture LP schools, 151 recognized ME, 15 venture ME, six venture MV, eight venture composite schools, 10 recognized composite schools, 56 class VIII to XII recognized schools, 40 class VIII to XII venture schools, two class I to XII venture schools and 106 high schools which lack government provincialization in the district.
