Dibrugarh Durga Puja

DIBRUGARH, Sept 23: The police in mufti will be engaged during the Durga Puja days to contain various criminal and anti-social activities like eve teasing, drug abuse and snatching.

Disclosing this at the community liaison group meeting held at the Police Guest House auditorium recently, the Superintendent of Police, Abhijit Borah, called upon the people in general and CLG members in particular to keep strict vigil on the anti-social activities and asked them to inform the police if any unwarranted development or activities come to their notice. He assured prompt police action. Bora also asked the traffic branch of the department to evolve a full proof traffic movement plan for smooth and hassle free and safe movement of the puja devotees and others.

The SP also asked the in-charge of the Dibrugarh Police Traffic Branch to engage few cranes for pulling of wrongly parked cars. He also directed the traffic branch to make arrangement for car parking places in consultation with the puja committees. The puja viewers, Bora said, are not to be allowed parking their vehicles in the vicinity of puja mandap.

Expressing his dissatisfaction over the prevailing situation of traffic movement at the intersection of Keshab Gogoi Path and National Highway-37, under Gavarupathar Police Station, the Superintendent of Police directed the traffic and the Gavarupathar Police to chalk out a plan for smooth traffic movement at the intersection. Referring to the menace of errant three-wheeler driver’s violation of traffic rules in the town, Bora stated that imposition of heavy fine failed to contain their activities.

Reassuring the drive against the drug peddlers, abusers and illicit liquor dealers, the SP stated that it would continue during puja days also. However, Bora was not in favour of declaring the holidays as dry day as it becomes meaning less.

Lastly, the SP urged upon all the members to extend their full co-operation in their bid to maintain law and order during the puja days.

The convener, Runuma Sarma and member of CLG, Jamshed Ahmed Khan assured the SP that they would organize traffic awareness camp at various educational institutions of the town in October and November this year for creating traffic awareness among the students and youths. THE SENTINEL
