Seminar on ESI Scheme, its implications

GUWAHATI, July 10: With the aim to enable the cross section of establishments such as hotels, nursing homes, schools, institutions and industrial houses to understand the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Schemes and their implications, in view of recent changes and developments in the ESI Act, a day-long seminar-cum-workshop was organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in association with the Regional Directorate of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, Guwahati in the city today.

While interacting with the media on the sidelines of the programme, ICC North East Initiative regional director Mahesh Deori said that awareness level of the employers as well as employees in the region about the ESI Schemes was very low and hence they were facing difficulty in understanding the implications and application of the schemes.

Earlier, the workshop was inaugurated by Addl Commissioner and Regional Director of ESIC, Government of India TK Bhattacharya. The panelists from ESIC included Dr Hardayal Singh, Senior State Medical Commissioner, Anjan Dutta and Surajit Das, Joint Secretaries, Ramen Saikia, regional director and Dr HK Sharma, administrative medical officer, ESIC, Asom.
