52 file papers for Sivasagar civic polls

SIVASAGAR, July 14 – Altogether 52 candidates have filed their nominations for the Sivasagar Municipality Board elections to be held on July 31 next. Out of these, 14 are from INC, AGP - 8, BJP - 5 , CPI - 4 and independents - 21. As many as 21 women candidates have filed their nominations as against 31 men.

A total number of 31,131 voters in 14 wards will elect their ward commissioners. The Ward No 13 is reserved for women candidates. In Ward No 10, largest number 5017 voters will exercise their franchise and the lowest number is 1113 in Ward No 8.

Sivasagar district administration has geared up for the civic polls and has set up 15 cells for the smooth conduct of the polls in 34 polling stations. ADC Ananta Boruah was given the overall charge of conducting the polls in the meeting held in the Deputy Commissioner’s office which was presided over by NM Husain, DC, Sivasagar on July 9. For Simaluguri town committee, 13 persons filed nomination for the four wards while in Nazira, altogether 31 candidates filed nominations on Monday for its 10 municipal wards. SOURCE: ASSAM TRIBUNE
