Agartala: Kicking off high voltage election campaign of ruling Left Front in Tripura, CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Sunday appealed voters to vote for secular Third Front. Addressing an election rally at Stable Ground here, Karat sharply criticized both BJP and Congress for their US friendly policies.
He claimed that neither Congress led government nor BJP could give guarantee of common people’s rights in the country. Karat said that the Left parties had to support the Congress led UPA government to keep the BJP out of power. "This time, we are determined to defeat both Congress and BJP to safeguard the common people", he said. "These parties always helped the riches to be richer and poor to be poorer, he said.
Karat asserted that the UPA government had fulfilled few of its promises but later adopted anti-people policies prompting the Left parties to pull out withdraw support from the UPA.
Karat said that there was belief there would be bipolar politics in the country. "But the four left parties and six regional parties have vowed to ensure defeat of both Congress and BJP who have ruled the country for the past two decades", he said. Karat also underlined alternative policies of the third front. "Both BJP and Congress have caused huge damage to the country’s economic and independent foreign policy. And time has come to adopt pro-people economic policy", he asserted.
Referring to the terrorism, Karat alleged that the Congress led UPA government could not contain the menace because of wrong policies. "Now the country needs a secular third front government to tackle genuine problems of the common citizens", Karat said. THE SHILLONG TIMES
