Guwahati: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, a Rajya Sabha member from Assam, is scheduled to hit the campaign trail in Assam on April 7 by addressing a Congress election rally in Dibrugarh town under Dibrugarh Parliamentary constituency in eastern Assam, according to party sources here.
Though Dr Singh was supposed to address another election rally at Diphu under Autonomous districts constituency covering insurgency-hit hill districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills, Congress spokesman Bichitra Chiudhry informed that Diphu rally was not in the latest tour programme of the PM.
Meanwhile, Karbi Anglong based tribal militant group, Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF) has called for a 36 hour Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills districts bandh from 5 p.m. on April 6 in order to disrupt electioneering in the insurgency-hit hill districts.
The outfit in a statement issued ‘shoot at sight’ order to its cadres to kill those dare to defy the bandh call.
The outfit which is constant pressure from security forces recently offered unilateral truce to have dialogue with the government. But the state government didn't respond to it while allowing the forces to continue operation against the outfit.
Meanwhile, Congress candidate in Autonomous districts constituency and sitting MP, Biren Singh Ingti told the media that Dr Singh who had just come back from a foreign trip after attending the G-20 summit would not be able to address another poll rally at Diphu on the same day. THE SHILLONG TIMES
