New Delhi June 12, 2008A Six Member Investigation team from NHRC will be visiting Bharatpur, Rajasthan from tomorrow to get a first hand account of alleged police atrocities on Gujjar community. The team is headed by SSP, Shri Mukesh Singh. The Commission's move came on a petition filed by Shri. S.K. Bainsla & Shri. Anurag Kasana. The fourteen point petition highlighted that atleast fifty persons of Gujjar Community were killed in police firing and many others were injured. The petition said that the police resorted to firing without following the established norms and wanted to suppress the voice of the Gujjar community. The petition also prayed for a visit by the NHRC team to carry out on the spot inquiry into the killing of these innocent people. The Commission had already forwarded a copy of the petition to the Chief Secretary, Rajasthan, for comments within two weeks. The Chief Secretary was also asked to inform whether the State Government had paid any ex-gratia to the dead and injured. source: http://nhrc.nic.in/
