JALPAIGURI, Sept. 30: This year the organisers of the Samaj Para Sarbajanin Durga Puja have decided to worship nine forms of godess Durga.

“As we celebrate the 59th year of this puja, this year we are trying to do something different and so we decided to worship the nine forms of Devi Durga,” said MrTotan Sengupta, secretary of the puja committee. “There are about 300 families in our locality and all the families are involved in the puja. We do not press them for funds. They do so at their own will,” the secretary added.

“On Nabami two-thousand residents of the neighbourhood feast together which helps us catch up with one another. Prasad is distributed on Saptami, Astami and Nabami,” said puja committee president Mr Bappaditya Hore.
“We do not appoint anybody to prepare the daily prasad as all the housewives and ladies of the locality prepare it every year. For people who fast on Puja days, special food is prepared for them,” the secretary said.

There is also a Senior Citizen Forum in the neighbourhood. Mr Sadhan Sen, a resident of Samaj Para, said: “This Puja held at our neighbourhood binds us emotionally. It strenghthens the bonds among the residents of our locality.”
