Puja guidelines issued
JALPAIGURI, Sept. 30: The Jalpaiguri traffic police published a puja guidebook today. The organisation also declared that it would be especially attentive towards the children this puja.
“Every year we receive several cases regarding missing children during Durga puja. To avoid this, we have increased the number of police assistant booths to seven this year. Every booth would have a telephone and a first aid team. Moreover, we would issue identity cards to the children during the puja days. The cards would contain the child's name, parents’ name and his/her contact numbers. But as it is impossible to issue the cards to all children, we request parents to keep a paper in their pocket containing the same information. We expect to reduce the number of missing children case through these steps this year,” said Mr Hemanta Das, officer in- charge, Jalpaiguri traffic police.
According to him, the traffic police have printed about 15,000 copies of the puja guide and would soon distribute it among the people.
Speaking on the matter, the SDO, Jalpaiguri Mr Atanu Roy, said: “To avoid traffic problem during the puja days, we met the community puja organisers. They have asked for a proper traffic guideline to avoid harassment. This booklet would help the people and the puja committees.”
“The booklet contains a map of the traffic system in Jalpaiguri that would be applicable during the puja. In addition, 126 pujas have been indicated in the map. We would also award puja organisers who obey the guidelines of the district police. Three ambulances would also be in service, if any untoward incident happens. We are also expecting some special forces to control the rush during Durga Puja," the Jalpaiguri SP Mr Manoj Varma said. n SNS
