SILIGURI, Oct. 8: The 1st The Statesman and Nine 91.9 FM Sharad Samman awards were handed over to the winners in the various categories at the pandals of the winning puja committees across Siliguri today. Subhashpally Sanghashree Durga Puja won the Best Idol Award, while the mandap of the Central Colony Durga Puja was declared the Best Pandal.Jatiya Tarun Sangha Durgotsav of Hakimpara and Subrato Sangha Durga Puja of Deshbandhupara bagged the ‘Best Lighting’ and ‘Best Theme’ awards respectively. The pandal of Ujjwal Sangha at Saktigarh was awarded for maintaining best safety measures.The awards were given away to the winners at the respective puja pandals from noon to 4:00 p.m. by Mr KK Chaudhury, general manager, The Statesman and Mr Bobby Gupta, CEO, Nine 91.9 FM as well as the judges for the contest, namely Mr Samar Chakravorty, lecturer, department of English, Siliguri College and Mr Sanjiv Ranjan, Director of Postal Services, North Bengal and Sikkim Region. n SNS
