‘China-Bangla military ties not a cause of worry’

SHILLONG, Sept 27 – IAF Chief of Air Staff, Fali Homi Major today said, increased China-Bangladesh military relations was “not a cause of worry” for India.

The Air Chief said every sovereign nation has its right to do business with any other sovereign nation and India has no problem with it.

He added that Bangladesh procuring military hardware from China was “not a worrying factor” in that context.

Bangladesh has recently set up a missile launch pad with China’s help near Chittagong port. Dhaka also conducted its first anti-ship cruise missile test (C-802A) having a strike range of 120 km this year, again with Chinese assistance.

“Bangladesh has every right to acquire what they want as a sovereign nation… India has nothing to worry about it,” the Air Chief stated.

Asked about China, Air Chief Marshall Major said that India was on par with China militarily. However, he added that China has developed more air assets over the years.

“Yes, China has built many defence assets, but this too does not concern us and India’s aerospace has also become more potent and effective over the years,” he asserted.

On perceived threat from China, the Air Chief said: “we go by intents and not by threat perceptions.”

He, however, said that the Indian Air Force is upgrading all the existing Advanced Landing Grounds in the North East and two more airfields were being developed in the region, sharing a long international border with China.

“The Tezpur airbase is being upgraded and very soon squadrons of the Sukhoi would be based there,” he informed.

The Air Chief said that India’s much-talked about Aerospace command was still evolving, adding the initial groundwork has been completed. source: assam tribune
