If you are planning to embellish your CV with false information, beware! Companies are tracking down phony claims in resumes and you could be sacked.
Twenty new employees of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Kolkata have been given marching orders; the company discovered discrepancies in their bio-datas during background verification. "The employees had lied about their work experience. We usually have stringent checks during hiring, but when you are hiring 35,000 people a year, a few slip-ups do happen," said Pradipta Bagchi, head, corporate communications, TCS.
Another spokesperson for TCS said, "Security is of utmost importance to us. We have launched an investigation to identify all those involved in the racket."
Three recent surveys have revealed that three out of 10 job-seekers fake it on their CVs. Yogesh Saigal, head of business development, ABC Consultants, says, "People always overstate their qualifications, especially at the entry-levels." Some get caught when their knowledge is put to test on the job, but now many companies hire specialised firms that conduct background checks. Saigal, however, points out the difficulties. "Websites that put up resumes do not have reference checks. They encourage people to put up as many resumes as they want, suited to the needs of different companies, hence people end up lying. Career consultants also ask people to customise their CVs. Unless there is an overhaul, things won't change." SOURCE: http://sify.com/finance/fullstory.php?id=14719698
