BTC chief wants probe

Kokrajhar, June 9: Bodoland Territorial Council chief Hagrama Mohilary today accused the Bodoland Peoples Progressive Front president Rabiram Narzary, former Rajya Sabha MP U.G. Brahma and the NDFB of instigating fratricidal flare-up and frequent killings in Baksa district in particular and BTC in general.

He also demanded CBI and judicial inquiry into the matter.
Mohilary’s statement came after the killing of former Bodoland Liberation Tigers (BLT) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) members Abir Boro and Jatin Boro by unidentified assailants in the past three days in Baksa district.

A 60-year-old Kanak Swargiary, retired employee of handloom and textile department, was also shot dead by unidentified militants at his resident in Kahibari under Barama police station on Friday.

“The facts will come to light after the investigation as to who had created tension and spread fratricidal flare-up in the Bodoland,” Mohilary told journalists this evening.
He said the killings had been instigated by U.G. Brahma and Rabiram Narzary.
The BPPF, led by Rabiram Narzary, is also obstructing development in Bodoland by creating turmoil.

He also held the NDFB responsible for the killings. Both the BPPF leaders had earlier sought the governor’s intervention to bring the situation under control.

“The governor should step in and take charge of the BTC to maintain law and order situation in the region and check the ongoing fratricidal killings,” the former Rajya Sabha MP had said.
“It is becoming difficult for civilians to live in the BTC. The situation has crossed the limit. Army and paramilitary forces should be deployed in the council area to bring the situation under control,” Brahma had earlier demanded.

NDFB information and publicity secretary S. Sanjarang said just to cover up his miserable failure, Mohilary started an organisation called the Ex-BLT Welfare Society, which led to the enmity between the former BLT and the NDFB members.
With the latest killing, the death toll crossed 40 and dozens have been injured in the clashes between the two groups since March 1.

Though the BLT has long been disbanded after a tripartite agreement with Delhi and Dispur, and the Bodoland Territorial Council formed consisting of four districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri, a section of its members still cannot get over its rivalry with the NDFB.
