NAGAON, Dec 21 – The State Government has decided to provide scholarships to the economically backward meritorious students of the State. This was stated by Education Minister Gautam Bora here.
Bora said that a large number of meritorious students of the State fail to continue their higher education due to financial constraints. That is why the State Government has decided to offer Rs 10,000 every year for the undergraduate course and Rs 20,000 every year for the post graduate course.
To avail of this opportunity, a student must obtained 80 percent or more marks in the HSLC or HSSLC examination.
This scheme will be launched with the financial assistance of the Central Government and about 20,000 students will be benefitted in the inaugural year.
Anniversary: The 73rd birth anniversary of Abhoy Baruah, president of Asam Kavi Sanmilan, was recently observed jointly by Barpathari Kavi Kanan and Surar Panchai at Nagaon Press Club. A journal based on the life and works of Abhoy Baruah, edited by Dipika Saikia, was formally released by Anjan Dutta, Editor of Deobaria Anubhuti. In his address, Dutta called as the media to highlight the true and positive news in the society.
President of Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha Dr Naren Kalita formally released a collection of poems composed by Dipika Saikia.
Dr Sanjib Barkakati, Padum Rajkhowa and Prasanta Saikia also spoke a few words. ASSAM TRIBUNE
