Seminar at IGNOU to improve teacher's competency
New Delhi: Considering the necessity to improve professional competencies of teachers at the elementary level on a recurrent basis and improving learning of children, the Distance Education Programme - Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (DEP-SSA) and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will jointly organize a National Seminar on “Technology Enhanced Collaboration for Improving Quality of Education Elementary Level� from February 24, 2010 to February 26, 2010 at the varsity’s Convention Centre.
New Delhi: Considering the necessity to improve professional competencies of teachers at the elementary level on a recurrent basis and improving learning of children, the Distance Education Programme - Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (DEP-SSA) and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will jointly organize a National Seminar on “Technology Enhanced Collaboration for Improving Quality of Education Elementary Level� from February 24, 2010 to February 26, 2010 at the varsity’s Convention Centre.
The main objective of this seminar is to share good practices on technology supported programmes for the capacity building of teaching and learning communities at elementary level through interactive learning system.
“Since continuous professional development is a challenge for the administrators, policy makers and implementers at the elementary education level, it is important to develop a system thorough which every individual can collaborate and support continuousprofessional development of each other,� said an official press release from the university.
The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) works as District Resource Centre in the state and provide academic support for organizing training activities in the state.
“Teacher educators working at different levels to be linked in the collaborative project are huge, and the potential benefits would be manifold including the motivational, and knowledge enhancement aspects. In this approach, it is essential to facilitate the teacher educators to contribute and develop learning resources to support each other,� the press release added.
The material so developed would be a national resource for the capacity building of teacher and other functionaries associated with education of children at elementary level.
It is important that a simple technology is used, and teachers are trained to use the collaborative technology.
“It is high time to think for a technology enhanced collaborative approach with the effective integration of emerging technologies for the recurrent training of teachers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan,� the press release further said.
The sub themes of the seminar include the following topics:
- Collaborative learning for facilitating professional competencies of teacher’s and teacher educators at elementary school level
- Open education resources for developing collaboration in the field of education at elementary level
