SHILLONG, Sept 15: Telecom company Vodafone will have to answer for the negligence that led to a pre-paid SIM card racket. The racket was unearthed by the police while trying to trace the man who used a Vodafone connection to extort former Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Deborah C Marak. The caller got the Vodafone connection with fake name and address. In the bid to trace the caller, Meghalaya Police found that there is a bigger Vodafone pre-paid SIM card racket operating in the State. The man who made the extortion calls has not been traced, but police has recovered a number of activated pre-paid Vodafone SIM card from a man who was arrested from the heart of Shillong recently.
