SHILLONG, Sept 15: The long-pending formal inauguration of North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) at New Shillong township has been postponed again as UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi could not make time for it due to her busy schedule. The inauguration of the hospital by Sonia Gandhi was scheduled in June 2006, and a make-shift helipad was also constructed that year at a cost of Rs 8 lakh. The proposed inauguration does not see the light of the day and the public money to receive the UPA chairperson has gone down the drains.
This time again, Sonia Gandhi had agreed to inaugurate NEIGHRIMS on September 23, but spokesman of Northeast Congress Committee (NECC) AH Scott Lyngdoh said today, “The inauguration of NEIGHRIMS by Gandhi has been postponed due to her election engagements of the party in Maharashtra, Hariyana and Arunachal Pradesh”.
More so, the NECC meeting scheduled in Aizawl on September 23 has been put on hold for the same reason. The new date to inaugurate the NEIGHRIMS has not been finalized as yet, but the NECC meeting is tentatively scheduled to take place in November this year, said Lyngdoh. THE SENTINEL
