KNP loses 44 rhinos, 8 tigers, 20 elephants

JORHAT, Sept 21: The Kaziranga National Park (KNP) lost 44 rhinoceros, eight tigers and more than 20 elephants since January this year due to various causes. According to information received from the KNP Director, among the 44 rhinoceros 5 were killed by poachers, 22 died in tiger attack and 17 died of other causes. He also said that poachers killed 8 tigers in the park so far. However, as many as three tigers were killed by poachers outside the park till date. The Director further said that more than 22 elephants died normal death in park. The cause of tigers’ death in the park is yet to be ascertained. Although the dead animals were sent to the Forensic Laboratory for postmortem, the cause is yet to be ascertained. THE SENTINEL
