SILCHAR, Sept 20: In a tragic incident, a gang of 15 to 20 dacoits armed with sharp weapons raided the house of Dilwar Hussain, an Anchalik Parishad member of Diglan GP located at Panighat under Jirighat police station around midnight and kidnapped him.
His father Abdul Jabbar (70) while trying to resist the dacoits was critically wounded and died subsequently. His dead body was thrown into a nearby fishery by the goons. Khuteja Khatun (55), wife of Abdul Jabbar and her son Nazir Hussain (35) were also injured while attempting to resist the dacoits. The injured were taken to the Silchar Medical College for treatment. The body of Abdul Jabbar was recovered from the fishery and sent for postmortem.
Following the tragic incident, a joint operation has been launched by the Army, CRPF and Jirighat police to trace Dilwar Hussain and nab the gang of dacoits. According to police sources, two of the kidnappers have been identified and the security forces are confident of arresting all the members of the gang. Sub-divisional police officer of Lakhipur Kiran Kumar Baruah is in-charge of the joint search operation.
The police confirmed that the killing and kidnapping was not the handiwork of any underground outfit. Residents of the area attribute it to family acrimony or land dispute. THE SENTINEL
