499 hectares under Bangladesh

GUWAHATI, Sept 19: Asom Revenue and Assam Accord Implementation Minister Bhumidhar Barman today said 499 hectares of Asom land have been under the adverse possession of Bangladesh and a three-km stretch of border between Asom and Bangladesh has not been demarcated as yet.

Talking to newsmen in Guwahati today, Barman said talks are held between India and Bangladesh from time to time but the disputes have not been solved as yet. “In fact, the 499 hectares of Asom land have been under the adverse possession of the neighbouring country since 1948,” Barman added.

On fencing of Bangladesh border, Barman said: “Of the work allotted to the State PWD, only 0.7 km is left, and the works allotted to the NBCC and NTPC will be completed by March 2010.”
On land registration, Barman said: “Some sub-registrar offices have been computerized and some circle offices will also be computerized soon. E-stamping system has also been introduced in the State.”

The minister further said government lands in Guwahati and other parts of the State are under encroachment. “The deputy commissioners have been aked to make the land encroachment free,” he said. THE SENTINEL
