Assamese adaptation of She Stoops to Conquer

GUWAHATI, Aug 5 – The ‘Asian Views dot net’, a Guwahati based visual and web media production is going to stage an Assamese adaptation of Oliver Goldsmith’s world classic She Stoops to Conquer in Guwahati.

The play would be staged for the first time in the city with the main objective to explore and develop the creative atmosphere of the State amidst turmoil and turbulences, encouraging youths and energetic people at large.

The Assamese adaptation of the drama Prem Aru Prem, would be a humble tribute to the eminent littérateur, editor and freedom fighter Padma Bhushan Chandra Prasad Saikia on his 3rd death anniversary, mentioned the organisers.

Noted playwright Arun Sarma, director of the play Abinash Sarma, music director of the play Charu Kamal Hazarika, noted actor Krishnamurty Hazarika and Hridayananda Gogoi, who has adapted the play in Assamese, addressed a press meet on Tuesday.

The drama would be staged for two consecutive days from August 29, 2009 onwards at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati. To be performed by the celebrity artistes, the drama would emphasize on best music and quality sound and lightning. The production will also be enhanced by the improvised settings, designs and other needed innovations at the background.

“Hence, it’s not only a challenge to stage such a play, but also we have to overcome all hurdles to achieve the target so that people of North East can have the experience of world classic drama,” mentioned the organizers.

It may be mentioned that ‘Asian Views dot net’ was formally commenced on August 8 in the year of 2007 on the 1st death anniversary of Padma-Bhusan Chandra Prasad Saikia with a vision to globalise potentiality of the North East through its varied outputs like visual and web media, producing films, staging and performing world classics, documenting unsearched resources and promoting and disseminating cultural pluralism and artistic excellence across the globe.
