GU to complete Subansiri project study by September


NEW DELHI, July 29 – The study on ‘Downstream Impact of Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric Project’, being undertaken by Gauhati University in association with experts of Dibrugarh University and Guwahati IIT, is scheduled to be submitted by September, Minister of State for Power Bharatsinh Solanki said in a Rajya Sabha reply.

The Environment Impact Assessment for Subansiri Lower Hydro-electric Project has already been completed in accordance with the then guidelines of Ministry of Environment and Forest, the Minister said in response to a question by Biren Baishya.

Meanwhile, in reply to a separate question, the Minister said according to the revised mega power project policy the lower qualifying capacity has been reduced to 350 MW from 500 MW in respect of hydro power projects in north eastern region and Jammu and Kashmir.

The Central Electricity Authority (CIA) has estimated hydro potential in the country at 1,48,701 MW. This includes 58,971 MW of hydro capacity in the NE. SOURCe: ASSAM TRIBUNE
