SHILLONG, July 16: The Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries proposes to establish about 30 mega food parks in the country during the 11th Plan period. The aim is to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for food processing and an increase in the production of agricultural produce, including dairy products, through the use of latest technology. It is proposed to provide financial assistance up to 50 per cent of the project cost, while 75 per cent for the Northeast and other difficult areas. The scheme will help connect farmers, food processors and retailers, and link agricultural produce to the market. Integrated cold storage have also been set up to aid the food-processing industry with one cold storage approved for both Meghalaya and Manipur governments during the 10th Plan period.
