BAIHATA CHARIALI, July 10 – “The economic condition of the State depends on the development of its agricultural sector. Agriculture is the base of the development of a State as well as the country. As most people of the State are concerned with agriculture in respect of their income, in order to bring about a radical change in the economic condition of the state, development in agriculture systems is the need of the hour,” said Dr Bhumidhar Barman, Revenue Minister, at a public meeting held on July 3 at Kamalpur PWD Inspection Bungalow.
The meeting was held on the occasion of the completion of three years of Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in the state. In his speech the Revenue Minister said that a grant in aid would be provided from his department for repairing the Kamalpur revenue circle office during the current month.
Participating in the meeting, Uttara Kalita, local MLA of Kamalpur LAC and parliamentary secretary of Panchayat and rural development of the state spoke about the various beneficial schemes of the government. Kalita also announced an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh as aid for the construction of a gaonburha bhawan at Kamalpur from her MLA LAD fund.
Cheques of old-aged pensions, and other beneficial schemes were distributed to the beneficiaries and a cheque of Rs 2 lakh was also handed over to the family of one Gautam Deka, who died in the Maligaon bomb blast.
Attending the public meeting Ramesh Chandra Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Rural) also briefly spoke about the various schemes of the government.
The meeting was anchored by KC Pegu, Circle Officer of Kamalpur Revenue Circle and welcome address was offered by Bharat Bhushan Devchoudhury, SDO(C) Rangiya.
A free health check-up camp was also organised there on the occasion. A large number officials from the PWD, health and family welfare, panchayat and rural development, agriculture and other departments of state were also present at the meeting. SOURCE: ASSAM TRIBUNE
