GANGTOK, April 9 – The penultimate day of the nomination process turned out to the most frenzied day where at least 54 nominations were filed to the respective Returning Officers in all the four Districts of the State. Both Sikkim Democratic Front and Congress party have now completed the nomination process of all their candidates including for the Sangha and Lok Sabha seats. Tomorrow is the last date of filing nominations.
In Namchi, Chief Minster and SDF president Pawan Chamling filed his nomination papers from two separate constituencies of Namchi-Singhithang and Poklok-Kamrang, both in South Sikkim. He had won uncontested from the then Damthang constituency in the last polls.
Mr. Chamling had left Gangtok yesterday afternoon for ight days tour for election campaign starting April 9, where he will address public meeting at Jorethang tomorrow.
All the six other SDF candidates in South Sikkim also followed suit. They are Sonam Gyatso Bhutia from Barfung, Tulsi Devi Rai from Melli, Tilu Gurung from Namthang-Rateypani, CB Karki from Rangrang-Yangang, BS Panth from Temi-Namphing and Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia from Tumen Lingi.
Completing the nomination process, Mr. Chamling is scheduled to embark on a whirlwind campaign tour in all the four districts.
Three BJP candidates, three Sikkim Gorkha Prajatantrik Party (SGPP) and one independent candidate Garja Man Rai from Temi Namphing constituency, also submitted their papers today.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and president of State Congress unit, Nar Bahadur Bhandari today filed his nomination papers from Chakung-Soreng constituency in West Sikkim before Shanta Pradhan, the west district Returning Officer at Rabdentse district administrative centre here. He had already filed his papers from the Khamdong-Singtam constituency in East Sikkim yesterday. ASSAM TRIBUNE
