NE Techmart spreads wing at Shillong Trade Fair

SHILLONG, April 6: Not to be overshadowed by impressive presence of foreign participants, the local entrepreneurs of North East with their indigenous products in the NE Techmart pavilion at the ongoing 10th International Shillong Trade Fair has made their presence felt among the visitors, stated a press release.

Dara Singh Wari of Ansula furniture from Meghalaya who is participating in Shillong Trade Fair for the fourth time pointed out, “though I have participated in other fairs organized by government agencies but participating in International Shillong Trade Fair has given me access to a totally different clientele.”

The NE Techmart Pavilion sponsored by National Small Industries Corporations Limited ( NSIC) for the third consecutive time in the International Shillong Trade Fair has carved a niche for itself by providing platform to the local entrepreneurs to interact with foreign participants..
Countries like Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Egypt, Pakistan and Vietnam are participating in the fair making it a fit international market for the local entrepreneurs. NSIC Zonal general manager JK Mahanta expressing his satisfaction with the good response received by the pavilion pointed out, “There is an increasing demand for space at the pavilion among our entrepreneurs making it very difficult for us to accommodate everyone, adding.” Gradually the fair is becoming a big boon for the local entrepreneurs making it the biggest international platform.

“Such an opportunity was essential to boost the marketing of our products. NSIC has taken a very wise step by tying up with International Shillong Trade Fair and providing us an international platform. Since the opening day we are receiving very encouraging response” informed Marry of Ruthi Making Unit from Churachandpur Manipur, Churachandpur who is trying to export dry flowers to Thailand.

Kamal Anowar who is displaying breathtaking handicraft products from Egypt at the fair is very impressed with range of products displayed at the NE Techmart Pavilion, “ Most of the products are world class and I am sure if they participate in fairs outside India they will do very well”.
Padma Rahman of Apurba Wheat and Rice Grinders from Asom, another participant in the NE Techmart Pavilion is very busy selling pithas and laroos ( Asomiya sweetmeat) on the eve of Rongali Bihu.

John Dkhar a student of North East Hill University ( NEHU) who visited the ongoing fair expressed surprise at the popularity gained by NE Techmart Pavilion. “ITFAA has definitely given the initial boost to the northeast entrepreneurs by joining hands with NSIC. But I genuinely hope that the victory march continues and the northeast indigenous industry shows the way to the rest of the country,” the young student said.

30 local entrepreneurs from across the Northeast are participating in the 10 International Shillong Trade Fair currently going on at Madan Iewrynghep, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. The fair organized by Industries and Trade Fair Association of Asom ( ITFAA) NER with support of Government of Meghalaya and NSIC will continue till April 8.
Meanwhile, ITFAA secretary Rajeev Das said, “NE Techmart pavilion has become a brand in itself with people waiting to buy indigenous items during the fair.” This was stated in a press release. THE SENTINEL
