Chennai: Jagdish P N Bhagwati, an Indian born American economist will be awarded honorary degree by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) on July 31, 2009 during the final celebrations of the institute's golden jubilee celebrations.
The announcement was made by M. S. Ananth, director IIT-M at the 50th Institute Day celebrations.
Bhagwati is is a professor at Columbia University known for his advocacy of free trade.
50th institute day was celebrated at Central Lecture Theatre (CLT) at the campus of IIT-M on April 17.
