Decrease of voter in Bokakhat

BOKAKHAT, April 12: The numbers of voters in Bokakhat Assembly constituency has decreased in comparison to 2006. According to the 2006 list of the Assam Legislative Assembly elections, the total number of voters was 1,15,109. Now it has decreased to 1,11,478 out of which 56,740 are male. The constituency has 120 voting centres of which 13 have been identified as sensitive. The observer has visited the constituency to take stock of the situation in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

Six poll parties leave Haflong
HAFLONG, April12: Polling officials of six polling stations of Jinam Valley zone left Haflong this morning for their respective polling stations situated at the remotest part of the NC Hills district amidst strict security coverage. These poll parties will reach their respective polling stations on 14th evening. Out of these, polling officials of 126 Khuongluong LP School will have to go on foot for around 20 kilometres of the hilly track. The polling parties of Jinam is expected to return Haflong on the evening of April 18.

On April 13, 46 nos. of polling parties and on April 14, altogether 87 nos. of polling parties will leave Haflong for their respective polling stations.

It is noteworthy that the poll of 16-Haflong (ST) LAC segment of 3-Autonomous District (ST) Parliamentary constituency will be held on April 16 from 7am to 4pm.

For smooth and proper management of the poll, the 16-Haflong (ST) LAC segment is divided into 11 zones and 51 sectors and the total number of polling station is 139. Out of these 45 are very sensitive, 40 are sensitive and remaining 54 are comparatively safe polling stations.

The total number of voters in 16-Haflong (ST) LAC segment of 3-Autonomous District (ST) Parliamentary constituency is 1,28,413 ( Male- 65,501, Female- 62,915).

Assistant Returning Officer of the LAC segment S Jagannathan has appealed to the voters to come out to exercise their franchise on the day of poll, as adequate security measures will be taken for the free, fair and peaceful holding of the election process. Meet on present situation of Kabri Anglong at Diphu
DIPHU, April 12: The district administration of Karbi Anglong convened a meeting with all contesting political parties of Lok Sabha election, 09 to discuss on the present situation of the district specially the 48 hours bandh call given by KNLF on April 16 and 17 during the polling day under the chair of MC Sahu, DC, Karbi Anglong in his conference hall, Diphu on April 12. Political parties including INC, BJP, NCP, CPI(ML) (Liberation), ASDC and KK Sarma, SP Karbi Anglong also attended the meeting. They expressed happiness with the media report on peace initiative between the Government and KNLF and DHD(J) and appealed to all concerned including Government of Asom and Government of India to resolve the differences mutually through dialogue and peaceful means.

Further the meet also resolved to request the Government of Asom to hold a high level inquiry into the death of Buasing Engti at Baghpani on April 11 incident and compensate the family accordingly at the earliest. It also appealed the KNLF for withdrawal of the bandh so that the electors can exercise their franchise without any fear. The district administration also held a separate meet with medias regarding poll preparedness and sought their co-operation for creating free and fair situation during the election process. CM attends election meetings in Golaghat district

BOKAKHAT, April 12: Tarun Gogoi, the State Chief Minister attended two election meetings in Golaghat district yesterday– one at Bokakhat and the other at Sarupathar and called upon the people to cast their votes in the coming election of April 23, in favour of Congress candidate Deep Gogoi for the formation of Congress government in the Centre for the all round development in India as well as in Asom.

In his lecture, he highlighted the past plans and developmental activities of the Congress government. The Congress has no alternative for the actual service of Indian people, he added. He severely criticized about the AGP-BJP alliance and AUDF’s mentality. Deep Gogoi, the Congress candidate for Kaliabar seat and Ajanta Neog, PWD Minister of Asom also addressed the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Debeswar Bora, president Golaghat district committee, Bhogirath Karan, president of Tea Cell of Assam Congress committee also attended the meeting. THE SENTINEL
