Pondy to ban plastic commodities

Puducherry (PTI): Puducherry government has decided to strictly enforce the ban on plastic commodities in the Union Territory.

The decison to ban plastic commodities such as water cups and carry bags among other things was taken at a recent Cabinet meeting. The intention was to prevent blocking of drains during monsoon season by plastic goods, he said, while attending a function conducted by Women's Commission here.

The ban would come into force on July one, he said.

Police and local administration departments would strictly enforce the ban and the violators of the ban would be brought to book as per the decision of the Cabinet.
