Sun shines brightly in most parts of north, Ladakh shivers




New Delhi, Jan 28 (PTI) People in most parts of northern India were today greeted by a sunny morning as mercury levels rose while high reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir continued to reel under cold conditions.
With maximum temperature of 23.4 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, and the minimum of 10.9 degrees, Delhiites woke up to a pleasant morning.

Amritsar in Punjab, however, saw a fall in the minimum temperature to 5.1 degrees, which was normal, from 5.4 degrees yesterday, making it the coldest place in the state.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded 9.8 degrees and 11.1 degrees and the minimum temperature at both the places was three degrees above normal.

Hissar in Haryana had the maximum upward variation in the minimum temperature as the town recorded 11.2 degrees which was five notches above normal.

The minimum temperatures at other places in the state including, Ambala 10.2 degrees, Karnal 10.5 degrees and Narnaul 7 degrees and Bhiwani 8.2 degrees were also above normal by upto four notches.

The minimum temperature in Chandigarh rose to 11.2 degrees, four degrees above normal.

Jammu and Kashmir also witnessed warmer nights as the minimum temperature showed an upward trend, except in Ladakh, which continued to reel under intense cold.

The minimum temperature dipped to minus 11.0 in Leh, while Kargil recorded minus 8.0 degrees. PTI
