Mumbai, Jan 30 (PTI) After falling by 149 points in opening trade, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex recovered by over 74 points at midsession on the emergence of buying by funds in heavy-weight stocks.
The Sensex was up 74.55 points at 9,310.83 at 1300 hrs from yesterday's close of 9,236.28.
Similarly, the 50-share National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 23.25 points to 2,847.20 points after dipping to 2,774.10 in opening trade.
Stock brokers said fresh buying by domestic financial institutions and retail investors mainly wiped off initial losses.
Major gainers which supported the Sensex were Reliance Industries, Hindustan Lever, State Bank of India, Sterlite Industries, Maruti Suzuki, ONGC Corp, RCom, ITC Ltd, Larsen and Toubro, and Tata Power. PTI
