New Emami plant opened

GUWAHATI, Jan 24 – Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit of health and personal care major Emami Ltd at Abhoypur in North Guwahati.

Spread over a 50,000 square metre plot of land, the Rs 50 crore plant has an installed capacity of producing 5,400 tonnes of cream, 1,800 tonnes of lotion and 900 tonnes of ointment per annum. The popular brands of Rs 700 crore Emami Ltd, the flagship company of the Rs 2000 crore diversified Emami Group, include Boroplus antiseptic cream, Himani Fast Relief, Fair & Handsome Cream, Menthoplus balm, etc.

Giving details of the company, Emami Group’s joint chairman RS Goenka said the Abhoypur plant is their second unit in Assam after its existing plant at Amingaon, set up five years back. “We found the State’s business climate congenial for further investments and hence, the decision to come up with the second unit,” said Goenka, adding, “the new plant will go a long way in catering to the growing demand of our products on a pan-Indian basis in a cost-effective manner.”

Industry Minister Pradyut Bordoloi and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present at the inaugural function. Emami Group also donated a cheque of Rs 11 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
