PFA out to stop animal sacrifice this puja

GUWAHATI, Oct 4: The Peoples for Animal (PFA) today in a press meet said that the organization will try everything possible to stop animals being sacrificed at the Joy Durga temple at Hajo during this years Durga Puja celebrations. It has been an annual tradtition to sacrifice animals at the temple since the temple was established in 1973.
The chairperson of PFA Sangeeta Goswami said that her organization over the years has been fighting to stop animal being sacrificed and has succeeded to a great extent. Many animals have been saved from being sacrificed, said Goswami.
She said that from May of this year, due to the initiative by the Joy Durga Temple Committee secretary Nipen Baghawati, animal sacrifices have stopped in the temple. This year, Baghawati got in touch with us and said that the temple authorities have requested the PFA to intervene and stop animal sacrifices. The locals of the area said that they will continue with their traditional rights of sacrificing animals.
