Utkarsha team winds up tour
KOLKATA, Oct. 7: The Sharad Utkarsa 2008 team completed its three-day long tour yesterday with its panel of judges comprising theatre personality Mrs Bijoylakshmi Burman, executive director of Response advertising agency, Mr Siddhartho Roy, Mrs Kaberi Roy Chowdhury and journalist Sujit Roy. When thousands of puja revellers lined in front of the puja pandals to have a glimpse of the deity and the artistry only for pleasure, the team of Aquaguard, The Statesman and Dainik Statesman Sharad Utkarsha set out to judge the best puja organiser in the city. The tour started off with Khidderpore Pally Sarodiya Puja Committee, where the organisers tried to uphold the tradition. From Khidderpure Pally Sarodiya Puja the convoy headed towards 25 Pally Sarbojanin Durgotsav Samiti in Khidderpore. The organisers over here have conceptualised their theme as global warming. Through their theme they wanted to spread awareness among the spectators about the ill effects of global warming. A member of 25 Pally Sarbojanin Durgotsav Samiti said that they conceptualised such a theme, keeping in mind that deforestation has now become a major problem across the globe. From 25 Pally Sarbojanin Durgotsav Samiti the Sharad Utkarsa team headed towards Khidderpore 74 Pally Sarvojonin Durgotsav Committee where the organisers portrayed the journey of goddess Durga and her entourage from the Himalayas to Earth. However, Suruchi Sangha of New Alipore, have conceptualised their theme as Bihu Gaaner Sure Brahmmaputre Tire and have promoted the folk art and culture of Assam. The organisers have constructed the pandal as a replica of Kammakha Temple of Assam. A beautiful image of Shiva has also been set up in the pandal. Around 30 artists were invited from Assam to perform folk song and dance inside the pandal. The judges also visited a few other pandals of south Kolkata. n SNS
