Kolkata, October 3 Well, how many avatars of Goddess Durga are you aware of? According to mythology, the goddess appears in 108 forms. Of these, devotees will see 51 avatars when they visit the Ranikuthi pandal near GD Birla School.

Moving away from the quintessentially traditional concept, the Netaji Jatiya Sebadal has chosen this unique concept for their pandal.

“We will have 51 images of Durga for the first time in Bengal. Most of us know that there are 108 different avatars of Goddess Durga. But to see them together at a single Puja pandal was never possible before. To make this idea happen we have decided that there will be 51 images of Durga at our Puja ground,” said Sayantan Mukherjee, cultural secretary, Netaji Jatiya Sebadal.

The various forms of the goddess will be on display for the devotees that will include Mahishashuramardini, Ugratara, Aparupa, Sarveswari, Kushmanda, Parbati, Chakreswari, Ambika, Chandrabati, Kaktarani, Bikalakshmi, Amrashur, Ugrachanda, Bogola, Kamala, Mahamaya, Narasingha, Mahalakshmi, Padmabati, Baisnavi, Shondamata, Bipadtarini, Kalidurga, Mahakal, Shailoputi, Gouri, Bhabani and Baishnamata.

The 5,000-sq ft pandal will be adorned with wood work and illumination. As one enters the temple-like structure of the main pandal, one can see two big structures of Natmandir displaying eight of Durga’s forms while several other smaller Natmandirs will have one idol each of the goddess.

The biggest of the Natmandirs will house the main Durga idol — Mahishashuramardini.
The main idol will be made of clay and earth, including its dress and jewellery unlike the other forms of Durga. “We believe that it is one of the most innovative themes and are hoping it will be acclaimed as one of the best Pujas in the town,” said Mukherjee. SOURCE: http://www.expressindia.com
