New Delhi July 10, 2008It was at the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission, Mohi-Uddin Siddiq, a petitioner, who retired from UP Administration, was able to get payment for the treatment of his wife suffering from brain tumor. In the year 2003, the petitioner approached the Commission saying, he had spent six lakh rupees for treatment of his wife suffering from brain tumor. In his petition, he said that he had retired from the Development Department, Badayun, and had submitted all medical bills to the competent authority for payment in the year 2000. He further said that several objections raised by the Department concerned had been removed yet the bills had not been cleared. He appealed for prompt action for the payment of his medical bills as he was too poor to continue with the treatment. Following this, the Commission issued a notice to the Special Secretary, UP Administration, who in-turn reported that the objections raised were removed. When asked for his comments on this report, the petitioner reiterated the allegations made in the complaint. On considering the record, the Commission issued a direction that the Secretary, Department of Health, UP Government should personally look into the matter and submit the status within four weeks.Pursuant to the directions of the Commission, Additional Director, Medical Health and Family Welfare, Barielly, UP informed that necessary payments to the complainant had been released. Further, the complainant confirmed receiving the payments and thanked the Commission for its intervention.
