Mons to start ‘Delhi Chalo’ prog

GUWAHATI, Oct 19: The Mon Autonomous Demand Committee (MADC) today in a press meet said that in order to put more pressure on the Central Government to table the Mon Autonomous Council Bill in Parliament in October, the organization will stage a “Delhi Chalo Nara” programme. The MADC also stated that the people of Mon region will support those candidates who backs the demand for a Mon autonomous area comprising of West Kameng and Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh.

The MADC asked the different tribes like the Monpa, Mizi, Aka, Bugun and Sartang to stay united in order to preserve the age-old tradition of the region.

It is worth mentioning here that the Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh passed a resolution on the various demands of the MADC in February 2004, 2004 and forwarded the same to the Central Government.

Subsequently, the Centre asked the State Government to send its clarification on the subject. The State Government then submitted suitable clarifications to the Centre.

Then a team comprising of 7 MLAs, MPs and former Chief Minister PK Thungon and representatives of the BJP and the Congress went to Delhi and met the Prime Minister the minister in-charge of the PMO. source: sentinel assam
