GUWAHATI, Oct 19: for the first time ever, a rock band of Asom called the Lucid Recess have been selected to play in the Great India Rock (GIR) show organized by the music magazine Rock Street Journal. Lucid Recess consists of brothers Siddharth Barooa (guitar) and Amitabh Barooa (bass, vocals) and Tanmay Raychoudhury (drums).

The group was selected from over 185 bands of India and is one of the 15 bands to feature in the GIR concerts. Their first show will be at Mumbai on October 31 and November 1.

The band has been influenced by number of bands like the Dream Theatre, Creed, Incubus, Coldplay, U2, Pearl Jam and others. Guitarist Siddharth said that the band wanted to write and perform their own compositions and this resulted in their first album in 2007 titled Carved.

One of the song from the album Painstaking Obsession will feature in the GIR audio CD. Lucid Recess played their first show in Pyrokinesis 2004 at the Assam Engineering College.

When asked why the bands name is Lucid Recess, Siddharth said,: “ It came from the medical term Lucid Interval, which means relief to a patient after a ailment. So you may say that we want to play music which provides joy to people.”

Their first album was produced by the brothers in their own studio— Lucid Recess Studio. Siddharth and Amitabh are the sons of Surajit and Meenakshi Barooa and Tanmay is the son of Brajendra Nath Raychoudhuy.
Siddharth is a MA in Economics from Cotton College while his brother Amitabh passed his B.Sc in Economics from the same college. Tanmay did his B.Com from Commerce College.
The GIR is held every year to give a stage to budding musicians to perform on a bigger scale. The show will be for the first time held in 5 different places. Lucid Recess will perform in Shillong on November 5 along with three more bands—Undying Inc., Scribe, Bhayanak Maut and a band from Norway Sahg.
In this years GIR, two more international bands have been invited and they are Freak Kitchen of Sweden and Satricorn of Norway.
Currently Lucid Recess is working on their debut album to be released in 2009. The band said that the new album will be different from their earlier work as far as songwriting and tune is concerned. source: sentinel assam
