Khajuraho in Jalpaiguri, Durga Puja


JALPAIGURI, Oct. 3: This puja, savour the splendours of the Khajuraho temple in Jalpaiguri. The temple and its intricate art form is the puja theme for the ‘Mahitnagar Durga Puja Committee’ this year.“Artists from Jaguria, Krishnanagar would be constructing the pandal, which would be 70 ft high and 68 ft wide. The pandal would be made from plaster of paris, paper pulp and foam. We are sure that the people would like our puja,” the committee secretary Mr Rajesh Roy said.According to the committee joint secretary Mr Kanai Chakaraborty, the Durga idol would be brought over from Kumartuli, Kolkata. "We are trying very hard to make the 55th year of our puja a grand affair,” he added. And, in keeping with the mood, the puja committee has increased its budget too. “The idol would be decorated in the traditional daker saaj,” said Mr Utpal Jha, the puja committee president. “We also distribute garments among the poor during the puja days,” the president said. n SNS
