Festive fervour marks Durga Puja in Surat

Surat, October 8 The Bengali community of Rander in Surat is busy celebrating the much-awaited Durga Puja with much zeal and fervour.
The celebrations, which began on Sunday was organised by one of the oldest club of the city, Bengal club.
Eminent writer Bhagwati Kumar Sharma graced the inaugural function as the chief guest.
Hardas Roy, president of the club, said: “The motive behind celebrating the Puja here is that many Bengalis live here and are unable to go home during the festival. This celebration makes them feel at home. The community also uses it as a good platform to meet other people who have recently shifted to the city.”
