Durga Puja in Ottawa Canada

Deshantari of Ottawa Carleton is a cultural and charitable organization set up by the local Bengali Community in 1972. Deshantari organizes various cultural and charitable events throughout the year. These activities include musical programmes, dramas and plays, annual picnic, activities such as Walk-A-Thon to raise funds for worthy cause, annual dinner, Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Saraswati puja, Childrens programmes, In addition there is a Badminton Club and a Library that is supported by Deshantari.

Deshantari of Ottawa-Carleton Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization set up by the Bengali Community of Ottawa-Carleton Region in 1972 to promote Bengali culture. The association conducts various events/functions that are of wider interest to our members. These include cultural events such as Rabindra Jayanti, children's talent shows (for example, to entertain residents of a retirement residence), innovative dramas by adults as well as by children, musical performances by invited artists from other North American cities, abroad and by local talents, and various informative workshops on different topics of general interest. They also include fund raising activities for reputed charitable organizations such as University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario or for Flood Relief in other countries. In addition, Deshantari organizes other fun events such as Open House, Annual Picnic and Dinner, Fashion shows, Badminton club etc.

Under the auspices of Deshantari of Ottawa-Carleton in Trust, a recognized charitable unit, Deshantari conducts the annual Autumn Festival consisting of the observance of Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja events. Deshantari also celebrates Saraswati Puja every year. In short, Deshantari is a lively organization that seeks to enrich our lives here throughout the year by combining progressive ideas with age-old traditions.
