DLF City "Durgapuja and Bengali Cultural Society"
Durgapuja is a religious event that touches the whole country in different forms, bringing together the community in a festive mood, evenings full of culturally enriched entertainment programmes; delicious food stalls; joy for every one. Durgapuja truly brings out the best that Bengalis as a community have to offer to themselves and to the larger community they belong to. Durgapuja at DLF Qutab Enclave was started way back in 1992 by a handful of young men of high energy and the collective wisdom and zest of the elderly members of the community.
Since then it has evolved and enhanced its activities over the last sixteen years and has become a platform to demonstrate the Bengali’s love and appreciation of art, culture and fun for the members of the Society. While Durgapuja remains an annual expression of Bengali's cultural and traditional heritage, a list of events throughout the year engages the members to a number of participative and appreciative events.
The Society, as it was conceived, has continually increased its activities organizing various cultural programmes and events spanning the year. Society’s annual calendar now includes Bijoya Sammelan, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja, Bengali New Year and Rabindro Jayanti celebrations, Barsha Utsav - welcoming the all important monsoon which brings in guarantee of prosperity and inspires many poetic expressions. The Society is working ceaselessly to bring Bengal's rich literary and artistic heritage to our children so that their identity is not lost in the fast changing and ever gaining pace of life. Society is now over 350 members strong and is gaining strength at every event during the year.
Having started in the then DLF Qutab Enclave Phase I, the Society’s name has DLF as part of its identity. However, the founding members did not want to limit the Society within the boundaries of DLF city. To ensure a larger reach for its activities and initiatives, the Society was conceptualized as an inclusive one that will extend itself to the whole of ‘New Gurgaon’ – the thriving metropolis on the south of Delhi’s border. Thus inclusion of the neighboring and growing townships that represent emerging India in Sushant Lok, Garden Estate, the Laburnum, Heritage City, South City, Sun City, Uniworld, Nirvana Country and all other new such neighborhoods that is coming up as we write this introduction.
Society has evolved to be a cultural representative of India, al bait with bias towards Bengali culture. Over whelming participation of all communities in our neighborhood has proved that the Society has proved this over the years and it has committed itself to work towards this goal: Parampara – our tradition to bring us together.
