GUWAHATI, Oct 4 – Contributing its bit in conducting the Durga Puja smoothly in the city, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to repair all the defunct street lights of the city before the pujas.
“Work is going on in full swing to repair at least 4,000-odd street lights out of the total 6,000 street lights maintained by the Corporation,” said official sources within the GMC.
“We are trying to ensure that all the lanes and by-lanes of the city are illuminated properly during the puja, to avoid any inconvenience to the people,” he added. It can be mentioned here that the PWD and GMDA also maintain street lights of the city.
Total seven hundred GMC workers would work day and night looking after the cleanliness of the city during the puja days.
The Corporation is also arranging for lighting in Pandu Ghat and Kachari Ghat areas during the time of idol immersion. source: assam tribune
