Deport illegal aliens, protect Indian minorities: CPM

Correspondent
KALGACHIA, Oct 29 – The Assamese people and other local residents of Assam have been anxious for long over the vexed issue of infiltration of foreigners. The CPM has demanded since 1978 sealing of India Bangladesh border and stopping of foreign infiltration. The party had urged the government to deport illegal foreign nationals as per law of the country, who entered Assam after 25th March, 1971 and at the same time, the government should ensure protection of right of the minority Indian citizens. Besides, the CPM has demanded updating of the NRC. But unfortnately, due to the central and state government’s failure and apathy, many areas of India-Bangladesh border have still remained open and insecure and the work of updating the NRC has also not taken due pace. Even after 23 years of the Assam Accord the government at the Centre and in the State is not seen taking any fruitful step to solve the issue of migration and because of this, especially after a verdict passed by the Gauhati High Court, a section of people and some organisations taking law into their hands, individually launched tracing out of illegal foreigners which fuelled tension among the common people and fear and anxiety among the minority Indian citizens and even some poor Indian labouress came under atrocity and harassment at different places of the State while the government remained inactive to protect the genuine Indian citizens. On the otherhand, to communalise the issue forces like VHP, Bajrang Dal and BJP have started provocative propaganda and activities. The CPM is serious on the fact that atrocity and harassment on the minority Indian citizens at different places of Assam would help create communalism and increare fundamentalist activities. To solve the foreigners issue, the CPM has urged all sections of people, irrespective of community, language and religion to act unitedly maintaining peace and harmony.

This was observed by Monoranjan Talukdar, secretariat member of CPM State committee, in a public meeting held at Kalgachia bazar on October 21. The meeting, chaired by Abdul Aziz, secretary, CPM Kalgachia local committee was held to discuss the current situation of Assam and in protest against massive corruption going on in Kalgachia and Ruposi development blocks. Launching a scathing attack on Congress, Talukdar also remarked that due to administrative failure of the present government incidents like communal volence took place in Udalguri and Darrang and even the BJP has got a free hand to spread communal poison in the State.

The meeting was also addressed by Sorbhog MLA Uddhav Barman, members of Barpeta district committee of CPM Kamala Barman and A Karim Bhuyan. source: assam tribune
