Jamshedpur, Sept. 7: With Durga Puja less than a month away, the festivity planning has begun in a big way. To the list of 256 pujas that the steel city witnesses, four new Pujas would be organised by the respective committees at Mango, Sonari, Telco and Bagbera. Today at the general meeting of Jamshedpur Kendriya Durga Puja Samiti (JKDPS) at Utkal Association Hall in Sakchi, various aspects of the Pujas were discussed. General secretary of JKDPS Ram Babu Singh said the members of the organisation would donate funds for the Bihar flood victims. Each puja committee would donate Rs 500 towards the Bihar flood relief fund and a donation box would be kept at the puja pandals. The measure would ensure good donation from the devotees who throng the pandals. The various problems faced by members were discussed at length and the JKDPS would take up the issues with concerned departments. The poor condition of river banks which pose as a threat during immersion of idols, electricity and other facilities would be taken up by the concerned departments. “We would take up the issue of cleaning and developing the Subernarekha ghats with the district administration,” said Singh. Soon some members of the organisation would meet senior officials of Jharkhand State Electricty Board and request them to ensure uninterrupted power supply at the pandals during the five-day celebrations. They would also take up the issue of replacing defunct transformers at some places. Music apart from devotional songs would be banned at puja pandals. “The committees would ensure that no vulgar or film music is played at the pandals,” said a member of JKDPS. In order to ensure a green puja this year, the organisation advised its members to ensure that they use idols made of non-toxic colour only. Earlier, the organisa- tion also held meetings with the idol makers advising them not to use toxic colour this time. |
