Netaji’s ‘volunteers’ march to Delhi
SHILLONG, Aug 31 – To press the Centre to place the Mukherjee Commission report in the Parliament, fifteen persons from the North East under the banner of Azad Hind Volunteers (AHV) have embarked on a ‘Delhi Chalo’ march from Manipur. The volunteers started their journey on August 25 on a ‘rath’ from Moirang in Manipur and will cover eight States before handing over a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. The ‘Delhi Chalo’ will highlight with documentary evidence regarding the “national and international conspiracy” against Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and on his disappearance, Azad Hind Volunteers said. “By not tabling the Mukherjee Commission report in Parliament, the government is depriving the people of knowing the truth,” Naba Bhattacharjee, an AHV member, said. “The Commission has pointed that the Taiwan authorities confirmed that there was no air crash on August 18, 1945 nor were any such incident eight months prior or after the date,” Bhattacharjee said. The ‘rath’ has traversed some of the major towns of the North East like Kohima, Dimapur, Tezpur, Nagaon and Guwahati and are scheduled to address a slew of meetings in over 50 places before reaching Delhi on September 21. The Justice Monoj Kumar Mukherjee Commission (1999-2005) was the third panel set up by the Union Government to probe the disappearance of Netaji. It followed Shah Nawaz Commission (1956) and Khosla Commission (1970-1974). – PTI
