By our Staff ReporterGUWAHATI, Aug 31: Speaking at a seminar organized by Asom-Miyan (Asomiya) Parishad at the Lakhiram Baruah Sadan here today Asom Jatiytabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) advisor Dilip Patgiri laid stress on a meaningful treaty between India and Bangladesh in order to make the deportation of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators effective. The seminar was organized to find a way for deportation of illegal Bangladeshis by avoiding internal conflicts in the Asomiya society.Patgiri said, “It is the duty of the Government of India to initiate talks with the Government of Bangladesh immediately and convince Dhaka to reach a treaty with the neighbouring country to make the deportation of illegal migrants effective. Otherwise, mere push back of the identified infiltrators in the no-man’s land beyond the international border will bring no solution to the vexed problem”. He said the State Government and all the political parties in the State should think in this line and step up pressure on the Centre to compel the latter to take up the matter with Bangladesh without any delay. Patgiri also stressed on immediate sealing of international border to put a stop to illegal infiltration. MG Hazarika, president of the parishad, in his inaugural speech blamed the Muslim leadership of the State for the suffering of the community in the detection of Bangladeshi infiltrators. “It is the negative attitude on the part of the Muslim leaders, within and outside the Government, for which the citizenship status of Muslims in this State is still under scanner even 62 years after Independence,” he said. Beside this, he said that the steps taken by a section of organizations, including the AASU and the AJYCP, for detection of foreigners cannot bring any solution to the problem. Such action only ignites conflict within the Asomiya society, he added. source: sentinel assam
